Confetti Rainfall

This little guy is a study for another painting I am doing. I got the inspiration from a Jimmy Eat World song "Chase this light". "Confetti Rainfall" is some lyrics in the song that I liked and this is what came from it. It is 24cm x 30cm.

Here are the lyrics.

"Chase This Light"

I'm a suspect, I'm a traitor,
I'm only here in body visiting.
Yellow faces in the distance screams,
"The beauty is in what isn't said,"
I'm rising to my feet,

Because tonight, the world turned in me.
Because right now, I don't dare to breathe.
Oh, babe, I know, it's alive and somewhere for us to find,
Tonight, oh chase this light with me.

My just so, my last call,
My life is yours in your gifted hands.
Confetti rainfall in a quiet street.
These things I've found are special now,
The knot is in my reach,

Because tonight, the world turned in me.
Because right now, I don't dare to breathe.
Oh, babe, I know, it's alive and somewhere for us to find,
Tonight, oh chase this light with me.

A movie, still photograph,
Through a martyr's eyes can I see,
I've seen the best of love, the best of hate, the best reward is earned,
And I've paid for every single word I ever said.

Confetti rainfall in a quiet streets.
The beauty is in what you make it,
So get up on your feet.

Because tonight, the world turned in me,
Because right now, I don't dare to breathe.
Oh, babe, I know, it's alive and somewhere for us to find,
Tonight, oh chase this light with me.
Because tonight, the world turned in me.
Because right now, I don't dare to breathe.
Oh, babe, I know, it's alive and somewhere for us to find,
Tonight, chase this light with me.

New Painting!

It has been ages since I have posted anything. In the last month we have moved so my art stuff was packed up and since we have settled in it has taken me ages to get back into the creative process. But over the last 2 weeks or so this is what I have been working on. I Finished it today. I am so happy with the out come. It is mixed media, oil paint, acrylic and house paint. I had fun making stencils and playing with multiple layers. It is unnamed at this stage.

The Big Canvas...

Today I started a painting on one of my new big canvases. The size of the canvas is 91.4 x 121.9 cm. What I am basically wanting this painting to be like a fantasy city in the sky. Bubble gum like pastel bright colours. A happy image. It is fun working on a large canvas. So much room to work in.

Here is a pic of my studio today.

This is the second layer.

This is the first layer.

This is a sketch I have done of the basic Idea I had. It is a sketch on a print out of a photo of the canvas.

Thursday 30th July City Trip

I caught a train into the city and had lunch with Mitch and then I headed over to South Bank. I took many Photos and only did a few sketches. I wanted to do more but I have had a sore neck and I was having trouble looking up and down. Anyway I am going to do some sketches from the photos I took. I have many ideas. Yay! It was a great day. I always enjoy South bank. Looking over the river to the city. Here are some of the pictures I took and one of the sketches I did. Click on the image to see the photos bigger.

Not for Sams Eyes.. Not yet anyway...

This week I have been working on a painting for Sam for her birthday. (a bit late) I wanted to paint something that I know Sam loves and that is the beach. So I googled a image of Mooloolaba beach. See below.

I did a sketch on paper first, just to get a idea of what I was doing.

The canvas is 91 x 61 cm. Below are some process Pics.

This is the finished product. I hope she likes it. It was a different process for me. feels different to what I usually do. But I am happy with how it turned out. I enjoyed painting it.

This is a picture of my studio from earlier on in the week.

City Plan and New Canvases :)

Since my main concept is the city and I don't feel that I want to make up a city I am going to spend a day in the city (Brisbane) and draw as many different buildings from as many different angles as I can. Also drawing other things that I see for eg People. And I will also take photos. This will give me fresh and new images to work from. I am looking forward to it.

On Friday I was in the City and I found this shop that had Canvases for half price. This gave me the opportunity to buy bigger canvases than I normally buy to experiment on. I like working big, it is hard to do so due to cost. So I am quiet excited about starting them. :)

Thursdays Progress

This is what it looked like after I worked on it on Thursday 23rd. (Sorry bout the light in the photo) I am not sure how I feel about it. I like it and then I don't. I feel it is missing something. I don't feel that it is finished. I just have to work on it slowly.

Todays Progress

This is what I have been doing today.
I have not done much on this one at all. I need to think about it. I want it to be kinda like the one below. But I am trying to use a different colour pallet. More earth tones I think.

This is the one I was working on Yesterday. I Think it is close to being finished. I need to think about it. I am thinking I want to lighten it up with some Ivory and cream colours. I might use those colours for the detail. It is a bit different to what I usually do. I am enjoying the process.

Work in Progress

This is the new canvas I am working on at the moment. This is what I have been working on today. It is far from finished. I want it to be really layered and textured. At the moment it is very blueish. I am going to add a lot more grey, purple and and a bit of red. I want it to have a limited pallet.

This is my studio today. Busy Busy Busy! Hehe

Turning point

Today feels like a turning point for me. I have gone back to thinking about art the same way I did at Tafe. It has helped me creatively. Cause lately I have felt stuck.

These are some pages from my visual diary. Looking back at my old visual diaries from tafe it inspired me to go back to a concept I have done many times and I feel I can keep exploring. Brisbane City. This fist image is just a sketch I have done of buildings. I have kinda gone back to the start and have been reading up on perspective. This is one of the many sketches I have done.

This next image is from my visual diary from first year tafe semester one. I liked this collage I did and I want to use it in the art work I am working on at the moment.

Other peoples art...

After a slow start to the morning I needed some Inspiration.. So I entered city paintings into google images and here are some artworks that grabbed me. I also went back and looked at all my visual diaries from tafe.

Paper for the Boxes!

This is some scrapbooking paper I got yesterday, it will be used on some more boxes. I think they are pretty. :)

These are some paintings I did today for the next lot of boxes I am working on.

A Box!

Here is another Box. I am really happy with this one. It is a bit different because I used some scrap booking paper as well as my paintings.

Boxes Boxes Boxes

Here are three of the Boxes I have been working on this week. They open and they close. They do have latches I just need to put them back on. This is the new project I mentioned in the last post :)

These are some of the paintings I have used in the boxes. It has been a challenge. Totally different than painting on a canvas. A great challenge that I want to develop further. I have used Ink and Acrylic paint on paper and then collage it onto the boxes.

Young Designers Market

On Sunday 7th June I had a Stall at the Young Designers Market at South Bank. It was a great experience. I learnt a lot and met some great people. It was great to have all my work on display and to hear some feed back. Here are some pictures of the day.
I hope to do it again next month. :)
